ABOUT US

WELCOME TO OUR HIVE

Meet Our Founder

We would like to introduce you to our founder, Katie Gamble.

"Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of your support with Nature Bee. What started as a small business out of my parents basement has transformed to a full scale production with incredible staff. It has been so neat to see Nature Bee make an impact on the plastic pollutions and our community. My goal and passion is to provide others with a simple, natural and beautiful alternative to plastic wrap while encouraging others to reduce their consumption of single use plastics. I am also very passionate about supporting people with diverse abilities and hope to be able to combine the two of them in the near future. This has been such an incredible journey so far and I am so grateful to have such a huge support system cheering Nature Bee on. Thank you for being a part of the Nature Bee Hive.

    Cheers,

Our Team

We are so proud to be a local, Canadian woman run business. We are transparent with our employees, and value a strong and healthy workplace where everyone is respected and cared for. Our employees are our backbone and are responsible for cutting, folding and packaging all of the amazing wraps you receive. Our team is small but mighty. Thanks for all your support!

Our Mission

We are on a mission to create a better beeswax wrap that is better for you, your family, your food, and most importantly the planet. We want to make sustainability more attainable and achievable, through our fun and colourful single use plastic alternatives.

Our Wraps

After many trials and errors creating and perfecting our beeswax wraps, we feel we have found the perfect recipe.

Made from 100% cotton, Vancouver Island sourced beeswax, pine tree resin, and jojoba oil, each wrap is handcrafted, folded and packaged right here on the island. We are making durable, convenient and fun wraps that will bring colour to your kitchen and help reduce single-use plastic waste from entering landfills and oceans.

Our Ingredients

We pride ourselves in our incredible ingredients. We believe that our ingredients are what makes our wraps that much more special. Our ingredients are all natural and hand picked to ensure top quality beeswax wraps. Our ingredients are selected with care, making sure they meet our sustainability standards and safety standards. At the end of the day, our product is truly sustainable and safe for you and your food.

Beeswax

Beeswax is the star of the show here! Our love affair with our beeswax is no secret, we adore our 100% natural beeswax. Our beeswax is sourced just a few minutes up the road from our production facility, from a family run farm. We love being able to cut down on our carbon footprint by sourcing locally! The bees are treated very well and are free to roam and explore the surrounding landscapes. They are raised in a seaside mountain meadow where they can produce pure, healthy and rich beeswax. We do not substitute our beeswax for cheaper wax substitutes, and the bees that produce this wax are not treated with chemicals. When you use our beeswax wraps, you can trust that the wax is of the top quality, and helped to support another local business.

Pine Tree Resin

You might wonder what pine tree resin looks like, is it sap? Is it like syrup? Not quite! Our Pine tree resin comes to us looking like glowing gemstones (shown below). Pine tree resin has been known for its anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties for many years. It is a fantastic addition to beeswax which is also anti-bacterial. These properties ensure our wraps will remain safe and sanitary for your uses.

Our Pine tree resin is sourced from the USA and comes from a family business. The resin we source is harvested using sustainable techniques. The Pine resin is extracted from the trees using methods that respect the resin's regeneration time (including the use of fallen branches) and it is done in a way that provides a constant supply, with future yields unaffected by current methods. This is very important to us that we do not stress or exhaust the supply of Pine resin. According to the Food and Drug Administration, Pine resin must be at colour grade K or paler, our Pine resin always meets or exceeds this qualification.

Jojoba Oil

Jojo-what? It is pronounced "Ho-ho-buh" (jojoba) oil. Jojoba is amazing as an ingredient because it is the ingredient that makes our wraps so flexible and supple. Jojoba bushes are a sustainable crop that requires little to no water to grow, and is therefor not resource intensive. Jojoba has been used by South Western Indigenous peoples for centuries, where it was used for a variety of reason and uses. One being that it was used as a salve on bruises, burns, and cuts.

And technically speaking, Jojoba oil isn't a true oil but a liquid wax, but is technically a "long straight chain liquid wax of non-glyceride esters". This is good news! Because unlike regular oils, liquid wax does not break down under heat and pressure. It also does not go rancid like regular oils, and is hypoallergenic.

Where It All Began

Nature Bee was founded in 2018 by Vancouver Island local and Queen Bee, Katie Gamble. Nature Bee started as a final project at the end of her Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Victoria where it quickly turned in to something much more. Katie was overwhelmed by the year-over-year production of wasteful single-use plastics and wanted to take a stand.

As a natural entrepreneur, Katie continued with Nature Bee to bring vibrant and convenient plastic wrap alternatives to homes everywhere. Katie and the growing Nature Bee family believe that small improvements in consumption and behaviour will make big changes to our environment.
